Nicolas Roeg's mystical masterpiece chronicles the physical, spiritual and emotional journey of a sister and brother abandoned in the harsh Australian background. Joining a young Aborigine boy on his "walkabout" - a tribal initiation into manhood - these modern children pass from innocence into experience as they're thrust from the comforts of civilization into the savagery of the natural world.

AMAZON SAYS...
Very few films achieve a kind of subliminal greatness with cross-cultural greatness, but Walkabout is one of those films... Through exquisite cinematography and a sense of human complexity, the film continues to resonate on so many thematic and artistic levels... With its story of two worlds colliding, Walkabout seems like a film for the ages, hypnotic and open to several compelling levels of interpretation.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY says...
Usually when a movie is described as a "visual tone poem" it's code for "boring," but Nicolas Roeg's art-house adventure is lyrical and intoxicating... One of the great films of the 70's... A gem.

THE CINCINNATI INQUIRER says...
Seen from a quarter-century's perspective, Walkabout looks as startling, vivid and mysterious as ever. Mr. Roeg shot the film in some of the most remote, rarely visited spots on Earth. The place seems literally otherworldy... For film lovers, Walkabout offers a journey not to be missed.

THE SEATTLE INTELLIGENCER says...
The beauty and nuance of the film descends like a daydream... days and weeks after seeing it, it has hung about me like so many small memories, moments of grace and simplicity... A work of art, a confusing film that stuns one minute with the infinite beauty of the surroundings and frustrates the next with unanswered questions...

POP MATTERS says...
One of the landmark films of the last half century... A deeply moving and occasionally disturbing drama that features consistently astonishing cinematography... Certain to compel just about any viewer to consider the world and their preconceptions in a slightly (or radically) different way... An enriching example of the opportunities great art affords us in our collective quest to understand who we are and why we're here...

ROGER EBERT says...
A superb work of storytelling... Endlessly fascinating... The cinematography (and John Barry's otherworldy music) makes the desert seem a mystical place, a place for visions...

THE MILWAUKEE MOVIE EXAMINER says...
This is a film that comes around rarely and absolutely deserves to be spoken of as a work of art... A great film and hopefully one that is rediscovered by generation after generation.
