Regarding ARTISTS
I saw on another website that a certain band is coming to your theatre. Why
haven't you listed them as an upcoming event?

We only announce acts after we've actually signed contracts for the engagement.
Many artist agents and managers list events on industry websites that have not
been finalized. Unless you see an act listed on THIS website you shouldn't
assume that the event is actually going to take place.
Do you rate shows, like movies are rated for specific age groups?

No, we don't. However if we have an act scheduled to appear on our stage whose
material we think might raise a few eyebrows amongst our most sensitive
patrons, you'll see a note on the artist page which says something like
"For Mature Audiences." But those instances will be very few and far
between. And if an artist really gets out of hand, we have a trap door in the
stage. And a long hook.
I have a gift for the act - can you bring it backstage for me?

The chances of that happening on show night are very, very slim indeed. However
if you want to send a letter (absolutely no packages) to the artist in care of
this theatre we will hand it over to the artist's road manager upon their
arrival.
Regarding DIRECTIONS
I've never been to Shelby. How do I find the theatre?

We're right beside Uptown Shelby, next to City Hall and just a few minutes from
74. If you'll go to our TICKETS page and scroll down to VISIT OUR BOX OFFICE,
you'll see our address underlined. Click on that address and you'll be sent to
Yahoo Maps. Enter your address under our's on the left hand side, hit GO and
you'll be able to print out precise directions and a map.
Where can I park my car?

Though the theatre doesn't have its own parking lot there will be plenty of spaces
available on neighboring Uptown streets and in four city owned parking lots
just a quick walk away... and they're free! You won't have a problem...
but obviously the earlier you arrive the closer you'll be able to park.
Regarding TICKETS AND SEATING
Do you have wheelchair accessible seating?

Yes, we do, and with adjacent companion seating as well. However we control
these tickets exclusively through our box office. We don't make them available
online to ensure that they're sold to those who actually need them. We ask our
physically challenged friends to contact the box office directly at
704-487-8114 as many weeks before the show as possible. We'll be happy to
assist you.
Can I bring my child? Do they need a ticket if they sit on my lap?

Ah, the question which risks offending the most people... but here goes. The
Don Gibson Theatre is designed to give its patrons the most comfortable and
enjoyable environment in which to experience live entertainment. In that light
we very, very strongly discourage attendance by children under the age
of 8, unless it's a show obviously intended FOR children.
All patrons MUST have a ticket to enter the theatre, no matter their age. Under
no circumstances will a child which requires being held in its parents' arms or
laps or carriers be allowed to enter the theatre.
No one under the age of 12 may enter the theatre unless accompanied by a parent
or guardian.
It is the sole responsibility of the parent or guardian to research and judge
the content of an upcoming performance as to its being appropriate to their
child's age and level of maturity. If there's any doubt, please call the box
office for more information.
I hear it's going to rain heavily tonight. Are you going to cancel the show?

The only way an event will be canceled due to weather will be if the performing
artist cannot make it to the theatre. Otherwise it's that old cliche, "The
show must go on!" Under no circumstances will ticket refunds be given or
exchanges made due to bad weather. The honest reason for this policy is that if
the artist arrives at the theatre, they automatically earn their entire
paycheck for the night, as do the lighting and sound crews, the stagehands,
etc... and cancellation and refunding of tickets would create a staggering financial
loss for the theatre.
Do you allow cameras inside the theatre?

We don't allow cameras, video recorders or any kind of recording devices into
the auditorium at any time, and those attempting to bring them in will have
these items confiscated and held at the box office until the end of the show.
There are two reasons for this - one, the taking of pictures disturbs the
people sitting around you, and it disturbs the artist on stage. Second, we are
contractually forbidden by the performers' management to allow such recordings
or picture taking to take place. Please note that this specifically includes
the use of cell phones as cameras. Cell phones will not be confiscated upon
entry but if theatre staff see them used as cameras during the show, they will be.
Can we bring our own beverages to the theatre?

Absolutely no food items,
beverages or large packages are allowed to be brought into the theatre.
I have seats #2 and #4... are they next to each other?

They're right next to each other. Seats on the sides of the auditorium are
always identified by odd or even numbers....
I've bought tickets but my plans have changed. Can I get my money back?

Tickets cannot be refunded or exchanged for any reason. No way, no how, nada,
never.
What if I lose my tickets?

Treat you tickets like cash. If you lose tickets and we have a record of your
seats, and you contact us at least 24 hours in advance, we will most likely
(but not definitely) be able to reprint them - but
without exception
there will be a $5.00 charge per ticket for this service. Reprinting costs us
money too, not to mention the potential problems if we find people are sitting
in your seats after entering with your tickets. Ladies, make sure your
husband really has your tickets in his pockets. He probably thinks he does but
he probably doesn't. It's one of those Mars/Venus things, it really is.
Will you sell "Rush Tickets," discounted tickets at the last minute to
fill the theatre?

No, you will never, ever see discounted tickets sold at the last minute at the
Don Gibson Theatre.
Regarding THE LOUNGE
Is there a bar at the theatre?

There is a bar adjacent to the lobby of the theatre in our large function hall.
On show nights it will serve a selection of beers and wine, but no hard alcohol
or mixed drinks.
When will the bar be open ?

The bar will be open (to ticket holders only) one hour before showtime, at
intermission and for one hour after the end of the show.
Can drinks be taken into the theatre itself?

Absolutely no drinks of any kind will be allowed into the theatre at any time.
Is smoking allowed in the bar area?

Smoking is never allowed in any part of the theatre property.
