CAN THE DON GIBSON THEATRE CONVINCE NASHVILLE
THAT WE CAN HELP BREAK NEW NATIONAL ACTS?
After years of playing four hours a night, six nights a week at Layla's Bluegrass Inn in Nashville, sharpening their skills and making friends and refusing to give up... an exhilarating and skilled young band are suddenly beginning to explode on the country scene... and we at the Gibson are helping to spread the word!
BILLBOARD MAGAZINE said...
"A fresh, inviting sound that begs for repeated listening..."
RADIO & RECORDS said...
"The lead singer is 18 and has Linda Ronstadt-like pipes... A far as musicians go, these kids have serious chops... Bursting at the seams with carefree, youthful exuberance and bright three-part harmony, it's pretty easy to imagine speeding down some freeway with this on the radio..."
AMERICAN SONGWRITER MAGAZINE said...
"Moving in on us for a quick recording session... A bright pink mohawk was carrying a fiddle case and others were pulling pink polka-dot suitcases on wheels. But whatever JYPSI looked like out in the street, they transformed into the most professional musicians we've seen in such close proximity in quite some time... The music flowed... Then as quickly as they arrived they were gone, and we stood transfixed..."
THE AUSTIN STATESMAN said...
"They take the bluegrass, country and rock and roll hybrid of the Dixie Chicks and give it a faster, almost punk beat laden with punchy bass lines... The four harmonize beautifully and solo on their respective instruments just as well... Frank on guitar played so hard and so fast he had to cut his last solo short after breaking a string..."
THE ALBANY TIMES UNION said...
"A fiery fiddle hoedown with some fierce flat picking by brother Frank... Sure it was loosey goosey at times, but in a good way... Sibling harmonies, twin fiddles, and an in-house guitar virtuoso - what's not to like?"
THE AUSTIN MUSIC EXAMINER said...
"Jypsi's fashion sense alone can rock the boat of some in the country establishment, but talent wins over fans and Jypsi has a boatload of both... And don't we all need a little bit of youthful, if not irrational exuberance?"
AND THE LOS ANGELES TIMES said...
"A brash young band with a punk-ish edge that's shaking up the country music status quo... Sisters Lillie Mae, Amber-Dawn and Scarlett Rische and their brother Frank create a first impression as Dixie Chicks after a rampage through Hollywood's thrift stores, their latter-day-hippie brother tagging along... Dazzling audiences with their instrumental and vocal chops, sex appeal and artistic chutzpah... They attack bluegrass and country with energy and sass... Lillie Mae and Amber-Dawn challenge one another with fiery fiddle licks, Scarlett spins out blazing mandolin runs, all the more impressive given her 1-1/2 inch long fingernails, while Frank rips off dazzling flat picked solos on her acoustic guitars. Except for Scarlett - who doesn't sing - all intertwine voices in roller coaster-like ascents, drops and barrel rolls. Lead singer Lillie Mae, just 18, evokes comparisons to Dolly Parton, Alison Krauss and Iris DeMent for her dramatic vocal swoops and dives..."
